Our 12-Item RV Launch Checklist

The short, hard-earned list we walk every time we pull the slides in. Twelve items, two minutes, zero forgotten coffee mugs.

The list

It lives on a laminated card by the door. We’ve thrown out three earlier versions; this one has survived two years.

  1. Slides in (and the dog out from under them).
  2. Antenna down.
  3. Steps up.
  4. Awning latched.
  5. Fridge to LP off / electric only.
  6. Water pump off, lines drained if it’ll freeze.
  7. Cabinets latched (the upper one always wins).
  8. Loose items on the counter — gone.
  9. Hitch pin and safety chains (two checks, two people).
  10. Brake controller responding.
  11. Tire pressures green.
  12. Coffee mug in the cup holder — not on the counter.

Why a written list still wins

We’ve been doing this for years. We still miss things from memory. The card is faster than the muscle memory and never has a bad morning.
